ORBERA® (Intragastric Balloon)

6028_OrberaThe ORBERA® intragastric balloon is a relatively non invasive surgical weight loss procedure available for people who are not eligible for other forms of weight loss surgery or are aiming to lose approximately 10-15kg. The ORBERA® ‘balloon’ is a soft, expandable intragastric device that is inserted into the stomach for a maximum of six months. The intragastric balloon aims to provide a six month kick start to healthy weight loss and to create the feeling of ‘fullness’ earlier and longer after meals. During those six months (and beyond) regular follow up is required to monitor progress and receive education and training. These important educational aspects of the program involve nutritional and lifestyle changes in order to achieve long-term success.

The balloon is inserted by a gastroenterologist via an endoscope (a long, thin, rigid or flexible tube with a light and a camera) whilst under twilight anaesthesia and the insertion procedure takes approximately 20-30 minutes. The procedure is then essentially reversed at the time of removal of the gastric balloon.

The EndoBarrier® Endoluminal Sleeve Device is a relatively non invasive surgical weight loss procedure available for people who are not eligible for other forms of weight loss surgery. The EndoBarrier® Endoluminal Sleeve Device is inserted for a maximum of 12 months. EndoBarrier® Therapy is a non-surgical way to bypass a portion of the intestine. This will essentially form a barrier between the food consumed and this section of the intestinal wall, and aim to reduce  appetite and gain a greater control of blood sugar levels. During those 12 months (and beyond) regular follow up is required to monitor progress and receive education and training.
